1. Adverb (unaccented): ‘still, yet’ or ‘since, as early as’

זי איז נאָך דאָ אין דער היים?

Is she still at home?

ער װעט נאָך אַ מאָל זײַן אַ שטערן.

[ER VET NOKh A MOL ZAYN A ShTERN.]

He will yet be a star.

נאָך יענע וואָך האָט זי זיך נישט גוט געפֿילט.

[NOKh YÉNE VOKh HOT ZI ZIKh NIShT GUT GEFÍLT.]

She hasn’t been feeling well since last week.

2. Adverb (accented): ‘more (= additional quantity)’

זײַ אַזוי גוט, גיב (מיר) נאָך ברויט מיט פּוטער.

[ZAY AZÓY GUT, GIB (MIR) NOKh BROYT MIT PÚTER.]

Please give me more bread and butter.

זאָג עס מיר נאָך אַ מאָל.

[ZÓG ES MIR NÓKh A MOL.]

3. Preposition (unaccented): variable meanings including ‘in search of,’ ‘(named) after,’ and ‘according to’

ער איז געגאַנגען נאָכן דאָקטער.

[ER IZ GEGÁNGEN NOKhN DÓKTER.]

He went to go fetch the doctor.

ער הייסט נאָכן עלטער־פֿעטער אַהרן.

4. Preposition (accented): ‘after,’ ‘then’

חנה איז אָנגעקומען נאָך חיימען.

[KhÁNE IZ ÓNGEKUMEN NÓKh KhÁYEMEN.]

Khane arrived after Khayem.

לאָמיר צו ערשט גיין אײַנקויפֿן; נאָך דעם וועלן מיר עסן וועטשערע.

[LÓMIR TSU ERShT GEYN ÁYNKOYFN; NOKh DEM VELN MIR ESN VÉTShERE.]

Let’s go shopping first, then [= after that] we’ll eat dinner.

נאָכלויפֿן:

זי לויפֿט כּסדר נאָך דאָס ‹דעם› קינד.

[ZI LOYFT KESÉYDER NÓKh DOS KIND.]

יענער פּאַיאַץ קרימט אַלעמען נאָך.

[YÉNER PAYÁTS KRIMT ÁLEMEN NOKh.]

That clown mimics everyone.
